## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 5/22/2014 AT AROUND 0830 MDT, PILOT WAS FLYING A 2003 FLIGHTSTAR FS21000 LSA, N612CS IN AN AREA APPROXIMATELY SIX MILES SOUTHEAST OF GIVENS HOT SPRINGS, IDAHO AND THE SUNRISE SKYPARK AIRPORT (ID40), WHEN HE EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

HE HAD DEPARTED THE NAMPA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KMAN) ABOUT AN HOUR EARLIER, AND WAS FLYING ON A NORTHWESTERLY HEADING, ROUGHLY FOLLOWING THE SNAKE RIVER, AND WAS ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE ADJACENT CANYON RIM, AT APPROXIMATELY 2900? MSL. WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WOUND DOWN TO A COMPLETE STOP. CRUISE SPEED WAS REPORTED TO BE AROUND 50 MPH IAS,PILOT MADE AN IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN AWAY FROM THE RIVER AND TOWARD LOWERING TERRAIN, WHILE SETTING UP A GLIDE SPEED OF AROUND 40-45 MPH IAS.PILOT LANDED IN A OPEN FIELD CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
