## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER A THOROUGH PREFLIGHT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND HIS PASSENGER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED MARTIN STATE AIRPORT (KMTN). ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IS NOT A CERTIFIED PILOT.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE ALLOWED HIS PASSENGER TO "RIDE ALONG" ON THE CONTROLS SO HE COULD APPRECIATE THE EXPERIENCE OF FLYING A HELICOPTER.

PRIOR TO LANDING THE PILOT SAID THE HELICOPTER BEGAN AN UNCOMMANDED CLOCKWISE TURN - ROTATING OVER 720 DEGREES BEFORE MAKING A FIRM LANDING. THE HELICOPTER THEN ROLLED ONTO ITS PORT SIDE.

POST-ACCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED NO MECHANICAL ABNORMALITIES OTHER THAN THOSE ATTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA259](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA259), May 25, 2014: Brantly B 2B (N9023Z), Essex, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain helicopter control during landing resulting in a hard landing and a roll over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
