## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC WAS ON CLIMB OUT AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 29 AT KTSP WHEN HE DECIDED TO SHOW HIS FRIEND, HOW TO DO A SIMULATED EMERGENCY TURNBACK AND DOWNWIND LANDING. AT 500 FEET, THE PIC REDUCED POWER TO IDLE AND MADE A 180 DEGREE RIGHT TURN TO LAND ON RUNWAY 11. WINDS WERE APX 320 AT 15 G20+. THE PIC LANDED LONG, APX 1/2-2/3 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY. WHILE ON ROLLOUT, HE LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WITH THE TAIL WINDS AND DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. HE APPLIED FULL POWER WHILE TRYING TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY, AND MADE A DOWNWIND TAKEOFF. HIS LANDING GEAR CLIPPED THE FENCE AT THE AIRPORT BOUNDARY, THE AIRCRAFT CART-WHEELED INTO THE STREET, AND STOPPED IN A POSITION WITH ITS NOSE INTO THE GROUND. BOTH PILOTS CLIMBED OUT AND WALKED AWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA210), May 26, 2014: Meyers OTW 160 (N34341), Tehachapi, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in a runway excursion and subsequent collision with a fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
