## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS FLYING TO BECOME CURRENT INSTRUCTING IN THE MAKE AND MODEL OF AIRCRAFT. THE PIC WAS SITTING IN THE REAR SEAT WITH A UNKNOWN CERTIFICATED PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE PIC NOTICED, AFTER TAKE OFF ON A TOUCH AND GO LANDING THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT CLIMBING. WITH FULL POWER THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND MADE THE DETERMINATION TO LAND ON A ROAD.

THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST, WITH NO INJURIES. HOWEVER THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE OUTER RIGHT WING, RIGHT LANDING GEAR, MIDDLE OF THE FUSELAGE, AND PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA228](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA228), Jun 4, 2014: Piper PA 18A 150 (N1672P), Leeds, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to confirm the flaps had been retracted during takeoff, which resulted in a loss of lift and subsequent collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
