## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A STUDENT PILOT WITH 7 HOURS OF TRAINING TOOK A PASSENGER FOR A RIDE. THE PILOT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT HE DECIDED TO LAND AT LAMONI MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. ON DESCENT HE THOUGHT THE CONTROLS FELT "FUNNY". THE PILOT CHANGED HIS INTENDED LANDING SITE TO A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND HE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED. THE PILOT STATED HE LOST ALL ELEVATOR AUTHORITY ON APPROACH AND LANDED IN A NOSE DOWN CONFIGURATION. EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE SHOWED NO DISCONTINUITY OF THE ELEVATOR CONTROL SYSTEM, NOR ANY ANOMOLIES TO EXPLAIN OR SUPPORT A LOSS OF ELEVATOR AUTHORITY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14LA281](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14LA281), Jun 6, 2014: Offchiss Edward R Avid Flyer (N111ED), Lamoni, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane while landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
