## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCORDING TO A WITNESS THE AIRPLANE WAS OBSERVED DEPARTING RUNWAY 22 AT MAO ABOUT 1300. THE AIRPLANE FLEW "STRAIGHT OUT" AND CLIMBED TO AN ALTITUDE OF "1000 FT.", ROLLED OVER INVERTED AND DOVE STRAIGHT TOWARDS THE GROUND. ANOTHER WITNESS STATED THAT THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED RUNWAY 22 AND ENTERED A CLIMB. THE AIRPLANE THEN MADE A SHARP LEFT BANK, ROLLED INVERTED, AND DOVE NOSE FIRST TOWARDS THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14FA289](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14FA289), Jun 13, 2014: Meyer Clair O 2/3 P 51B/C Mustang (N51BM), Marion, SC, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The airplane's impact with terrain shortly after takeoff due to a physiological incapacitation of the pilot.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
