## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE CLIMBOUT ON RUNWAY 21 OF THE PRIVATE GRASS STRIP NEAR PENNSBORO WATER SUPPLY LAKE IN PENNSBORO, WV, THE ENGINE BEGAN SPUTTERING APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET AGL AFTER TAKEOFF. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE ENGINE QUIT OR WENT TO IDLE WITH THE PROPELLER STILL TURNING. THE PILOT TURNED LEFT AND PREPARED TO LAND IN HIS YARD NEAR THE LAKE, BUT THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND OF A FIELD NEAR THE TOP OF THE LAKE HILLSIDE WITH THE LEFT WING, PROPELLER, AND LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR, SPINNING THE AIRCRAFT AROUND TOWARDS THE END OF RUNWAY 21. THE AIRCRAFT THEN SLID APPROXIMATELY 250 FEET DOWN THE SLOPE OF THE HILLSIDE TO THE LAKE BELOW, COMING TO A STOP AT THE WATER'S EDGE (APPROXIMATELY .25 MILES FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY). THE PILOT AND PASSENGER THEN EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT WINGS, FUSELAGE, ENGINE MOUNT, ENGINE FIREWALL, LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR, AND PROPELLER BLADES.
