## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WAS GIVING STUDENT PILOT INSTRUCTION IN THE 180-AUTOROTATION MANUEVER. AT 100 FEET AGL THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR REPORTED A SINKING FEELING AND AN INCREASE IN THE RATE OF DESCENT. FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR REPORTED SPEED OF 65 KTS AND RPM ABOVE THE GREEN ARC. FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL FROM STUDENT PILOT AND ATTEMPTED TO ARREST DESCENT. THE AIRCRAT EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING AND THE MAIN ROTOR SEVERED THE TAIL BOOM. THE HELICOPTER ROLLED ON ITS RIGHT SIDE AND SLID APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET BEFORE STOPPING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14LA313](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14LA313), Jun 19, 2014: Robinson R22 - Beta (N784SH), Moscow Mills, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s delayed remedial action to correct the student pilot’s use of an excessive descent rate during a practice autorotation, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
