## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1630, 6/20/2014, DURING CLIMB OUT FROM RWY 27, PILOT EXPERIENCED LOW ENGINE POWER OUTPUT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN POSITIVE RATE OF CLIMB. PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE OFF AIRPORT LANDING IN RESIDENTIAL AREA IMMEDIATELY NORTH AND ADJACENT TO RWY 27 AND AIRPORT PROPERTY. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN REAR OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, NO INJURIES TO SOLE OCCUPANT AND NO DAMAGE TO PROPERTY ON GROUND.

SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT REVEALED ENGINE CYLINDER # 1 EXHAUST VALVE SEIZED IN OPEN POSITION CAUSING SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN AVAILABLE POWER OUTPUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14LA308](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14LA308), Jun 20, 2014: Taylor J-2 (N16667), Lock Haven, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane owner’s failure to clean and lubricate the engine valve guides and stems, which resulted in a partial loss of engine power during the initial climb due to an exhaust valve failure.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
