## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS RETURNING TO THE HOME AIRSTRIP AT RIEGO ROAD AFTER APPLYING FERTILIZER TO A FIELD WHEN HE HAD A "SUDDEN AND TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE". HE STATED HE WAS ABOUT 300 FEET AGL AND MADE A TURN TO THE EAST TO A DIRT ROAD, HOWEVER THE RATE OF DECENT DID NOT ALLOW PROPER ALLIGNMENT AND HE LANDED IN A FLOODED RICE FIELD AND OVERTURNED. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS TO THE RICE CROP. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO PROP, ENGINE, WINGS AND TAIL WHEN THE AIRCRAFT OVERTURNED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14LA267](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14LA267), Jun 23, 2014: Air Tractor AT 502B (N61150), Sacramento, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because the airplane was not available for postaccident examination.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
