## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 4, 2014 AT ABOUT 03:00 PM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MADE A POWER-OFF LANDING DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS OPERATING A QUICKSILVER MXL II WITH ONE OTHER PERSON ONBOARD. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THE ENGINE RPM WAS DECAYING, HE REDUCED THROTTLE AND THE ENGINE TEMPORARILY REGAINED POWER. SHORTLY AFTERWARD THE ENGINE LOST RPM AND HE DECIDED TO LAND. THE LANDING OCCURRED IN A CORN FIELD ABOUT 5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SACKMAN FIELD (H49) IN COLUMBIA, IL. NEITHER OCCUPANT RECEIVED INJURIES. THE DAMAGE TO THE MXL II WERE DEFORMATION TO THE LANDING GEAR TORQUE TUBE, BENT LEFT AXEL, DENTED BRACKET ON THE CONTROL STICK, RIGHT WING VISIBILITY LIGHT. AFTER TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN THE PILOT AND AN FAA ASI THE MXL II WAS PUT ON A TRAILER AND RELOCATED TO SACKMAN FIELD. THE FAA IIC CONTACTED THE NTSB ON JULY 10 AND IT WAS DETERMINED BY THE NTSB THAT THIS WAS AN INCIDENT AS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE REQUIRING A MAJOR REPAIR. ON JULY 16, 2014 IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HE STATED THAT HE MAY HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS. AFTER THE LANDING HE LOOKED AT THE SIGHT GLASS ON THE FUEL TANK AND INDICATED THERE WAS LITTLE FUEL SHOWING. HE ALSO STATED HE RETURNED TO THE AIRPLANE IN THE EVENING OF JULY 4TH AND PUT GASOLINE IN THE TANK.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
