## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS TAKING OFF ON RWY 27 AND WAS ABOUT 50 FEET HIGH WHEN A GUST OF WIND BLEW HIM TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT DESCRIBED THE EVENT AS UNCONTROLLABLE. HE STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT WITH FULL INPUT FROM THE AILERONS AND RUDDER. THE PILOT CLAIMS HE HAD JUST LIFTED OFF THE RUNWAY AND HAD ABOUT 62KNTS AIRSPEED. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND AT A NOSE DOWN, STEEP ANGLE WITH LOW SPEED. THE LEFT WING HIT THE GROUND FIRST FOLLOWED BY THE NOSE/PROP/ENGINE, AND THEN THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND JUST BEFORE FLIPPING UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN POINTING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION (TOWARD THE EAST). THE TOTAL GROUND SCAR FROM INITIAL IMPACT TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14CA353](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14CA353), Jul 10, 2014: Cessna 172N (N4842G), Edgewood, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's in-flight loss of control resulting from a crosswind gust encountered immediately after takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
