## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED THAT HE EXPERIENCED A HIGH SINK RATE DURING LANDING, HE ALSO REPORTED THAT HE WAS USING A SHORT FIELD LANDING APPROACH. PILOT STATED THAT WHEN HE REALIZED THE HIGH SINK RATE AND BY THE TIME HE ADDED POWER THE AIRCRAFT HAD IMPACTED THE GRASS STRIP. REVIEW OF PICTURES OF THE IMPACT POINT INDICATES THAT THE AIRCRAFT SUNK IN TO THE GROUND. PILOT REPORTED THAT IMPACT OF THE GROUND WITH THE PROPELLER WAS EVIDENT, BASED ON PERPINDICULAR MARKS TO THE TRAVEL OF THE AIRCRAFT. SUBSEQUENTLY THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK, COMING TO REST UPSIDE DOWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14CA370](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14CA370), Jul 16, 2014: Cessna 120 (N76097), Midland, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain sufficient airspeed and his delayed application of engine power while on short final which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
