## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED ATCHISON, KS AIRPORT (K59) AT 0820 ON 7-18-2014 FOR A FLIGHT TO SEBETHA, KS (K83) TO RETURN FROM HAVING THE AIRCRAFT BRAKES RESEALED. ABOUT 20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT WHILE LEVEL AT 600 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL THE ENGINE STARTED TO BACKFIRE. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON AN ADJACENT BLACKTOP ROAD. AS HE ATTEMPTED THE LANDING HE OBSERVED A VEHICLE ON THE ROAD AND MADE A CIRCLE OVER A PASTURE TO THE WEST OF THE ROAD. DURING THE CIRCLE THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. THE PILOT CONTINUED THE LANDING ON THE ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT STALLED ABOVE THE ROAD ABOUT 10 FEET AND CONTACTED THE ROAD NOT COMPLETELY STRAIGHT. THIS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO TURN AND SLIDE INTO THE DITCH ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT SLID SIDEWAYS UNTIL IT STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE. THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED AFTER BREAKING THE TELEPHONE POLE OFF.
