## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 20, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 1830 CDT, A KITFOX SPEEDSTER BEARING REGISTRATION NUMBER N622P, WITH NO REGISTRATION, IMPACTED THE GROUND AT A HIGH ANGLE 4.5 MILES NORTHWEST OF BLACKWELL, TEXAS IN A RURAL AREA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED ON A PLEASURE FLIGHT. VISUAL METEROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME, AND A VFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED, AND THE CERTIFICATED PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM A PRIVATE FIELD NEAR THE ACCIDENT SITE.

AT 1732 CDT, THE NOLAN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE RECEIVED A CALL IN REFERENCE TO A MISSING AIRCRAFT IN SOUTHERN NOLAN COUNTY. FAMILY MEMBERS REPORTED THE PILOT HAD TAKEN OFF IN A SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT FROM A PRIVATE AIR FIELD AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 CDT AND HAD NOT RETURNED. A SEARCH OF THE AREA NEAR THE PRIVATE AIR FIELD WAS CONDUCTED AND THE SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT WAS LOCATED A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE AIRFIELD. THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT IN THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14FA377](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14FA377), Jul 20, 2014: Oden Weldon Pat Kitfox IV Speedster (N622P), Blackwell, TX, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of airplane control following a loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined based on the available evidence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
