## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN OPERATING FROM HAZELTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (ALTITUDE 4173) ALL DAY AND WAS ON LOAD NUMBER 15 FOR THE DAY. THE WIND WAS 3 TO 5 KNOTS AND SWITCHING DIRECTION ALL DAY. ON THIS LOAD HE LOADED 700 GALS WEIGHING ABOUT 6300 LB. THE ELECTRONIC WIND METER SHOWED WINDS FROM THE NE. HE BACK TAXIED AND STARTED HIS TAKEOFF ROLL, TAKING OFF TO THE EAST. THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT COME UP WHEN IT USUALLY DID. HE USED ALL OF THE RUNWAY AND ADDED MORE FLAP (30 DEGREES) TO GET THE AIRCRAFT IN THE AIR. THE AIRCRAFT STARTED SETTLING BACK TOWARDS THE GROUND. THE PILOT OPENED THE HYDRAULIC GATE TRYING TO DUMP ONLY PART OF THE LOAD TO ALLOW THE AIRCRAFT TO FLY. WHEN HE OPENED THE GATE THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED SEVERELY NOSE UP. HE PUSHED THE NOSE OVER AND THE RT WING DROPPED THEN THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND DIRECTLY ON THE NOSE. TEMP AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS ABOUT 90 DEGREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA317](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA317), Jul 28, 2014: Air Tractor AT 802A (N802TY), Hazelton, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during takeoff roll in variable wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
