## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS PRACTICING GRASS LANDINGS ADJACENT TO TAXIWAY ON AREA PREPARED FOR SUCH BY, AND WITH CONCURRENCE OF, THE AIRPORT MANAGER.

AS AIRCRAFT SLOWED TO NEAR ZERO SPEED AND RUDDER EFFECTIVENESS DETERIORATED IT BEGAN TO YAW DUE TO LIGHT CROSSWIND.

BECAUSE OF NO RUDDER AUTHORITY, PILOT USED BRAKE TO CORRECT YAW. BRAKE LOCKED UP, SKIDDED, AND AIRCRAFT FLIPPED FORWARD ONTO ITS TOP, INCURRING PROP-STRIKE ON WAY OVER.

AIRCRAFT WINDSHIELD WAS DESTROYED. WING STRUT BROKE AND COLLAPSED. SKIN WRINKLED BOTTOM OF BOTH WINGS. RUDDER DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14CA405](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14CA405), Jul 31, 2014: Aviat A-1C-180 (N199MA), Oakdale, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's excessive braking on landing, which resulted in a loss of control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
