## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THAT DURING CLIMB OUT RUDDER FELT VERY STIFF AND THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT RESPOND TO THE VERY LIMITED LEFT RUDDER INPUT. PILOT SET THE AIRCRAFT DOWN IN A GRASS FIELD AT END OR RUNWAY WHEN THE NOSE WHEEL FAILED RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPING OVER ON TO IT'S BACK. PILOT STATED THAT PASSENGER WAS VERY SCARED AND THAT HIS BODY GOT VERY STIFF, FOUND EVIDENCE THAT PASSENGER MAY HAVE HAD LEFT RUDDER PEDAL JAMMED WITH HIS FOOT RESTRICTING LEFT RUDDER MOVEMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA385](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA385), Aug 4, 2014: Cote James Rans S 6S (N502CW), New Berlin, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The passenger's inadvertent interference with the rudder controls during the takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
