## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON CLIMB OUT AFTER TAKEOFF, AT APPROXIMATELY 200' THE ENGINE LOST POWER. PILOT REMEMBERED THAT HE HAD TURNED THE FUEL VALVES OFF WHILE ON THE GROUND AND NEVER TURNED THEM BACK ON. BY THE TIME THE FUEL WAS BACK ON, THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE THE CLIMB OUT AND ATTEMPTED A LEFT TURN TOWARD AN OPEN FIELD. AIRCRAFT FIRST STRUCK THE GROUND WITH ITS LEFT WING, CAUSING IT TO CARTWHEEL AND COME TO REST. PILOT AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO FUSELAGE AND BOTH WINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA333](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA333), Aug 9, 2014: Kitfox Series 5 (N910MK), Kamiah, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as a result of the pilot's failure to open the fuel shutoff valves for each fuel tank before takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
