## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHEN ON FINAL APPROACH THE PILOT NOTED THAT HE WAS ABOUT 95 MPH AND WAS SINKING TOO FAST SO HE ADDED POWER AND PITCHED THE THE NOSE UP TO REDUCE AIRSPEED. THE ENGINE MADE A MUFFELED POP NOISE AND HE ADDED FULL THROTTLE. THE ENGINE POWER DID NOT RESPOND QUICK ENOUGH TO ARREST THE DESCENT AND THE PILOT HAD TO MAINTAIN FLYING SPEED , SO HE ACCEPTED THE TOUCH DOWN SHORT OF THE INTENDED LANDING ZONE. THE AIRPLANE LANDED ON A 4 FOOT FENCE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF HERNDON AVENUE AND SLID TO A STOP ON THE NORTH SIDE OF HERNDON AVENUE. NO INJURY OR VEHICULAR DAMAGE.

SLIGHT FUEL LEAK DEVELOPED. NO FIRE. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE AND PROPELLER INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING POWER AT THE TIME OF IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14LA337](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14LA337), Aug 10, 2014: Ryan Navion (N4533K), Fresno, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
