## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 28, 2014, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED LOUISVILLE AIRPORT (LOU) IN A CESSNA 150 FOR A FLIGHT TO ELIZABETH CITY (EGC). ACCORDING TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATEMENT HE FLEW FOR SEVERAL HOURS ABOVE 12500 FEET IN ORDER TO SAVE ON FUEL. AS THE AIRCRAFT PASTED BY RALEIGH AIRPORT (RDU) THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. AIRWORTHINESS PERSONNEL FROM EA39 CONDUCTED AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT 12 HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT FUEL TANKS WERE EMPTY (SEE PTRS EA39201410862). THE ACCIDENT SCENE DID NOT HAVE A SMELL OF FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14LA411](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14LA411), Aug 29, 2014: Cessna 150L (N1741Q), Creedmoor, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate fuel planning, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s impairment due to alcohol ingestion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
