## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A WITNESS REPORTED THAT SHE OBSERVED THE AIRCRAFT MAKING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS ON THE STILLWATER RESERVOIR, WHEN SHE HEARD THE AIRCRAFT MAKE A FINAL LANDING AND STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE MADE A LOUD ROAR FOLLOWED BY A RASPY SPUTTER, THEN ANOTHER LOUD ROAR FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER RASPY SPUTTER, AND THEN ANOTHER LOUD ROAR FOLLOWED BY A FINAL RASPY SPUTTER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DISCOVERED APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS LATER FLOATING IN SIX TO EIGHT FEET OF WATER WITH SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE TOP NOSE SECTION, CANOPY AND COCKPIT. THE PILOT WAS DECEASED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14LA423](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14LA423), Sep 4, 2014: Mcmurray David C Searey (N8768B), Webb, NY, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the amphibious airplane while practicing touch-and-go takeoffs and landings on a reservoir.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
