ON 9/7/2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 1630 EDT AIRCRAFT N31GF, A SCHLEICHER GLIDER MODEL ASW-19B, MADE AN UNPLANNED OFF-FIELD LANDING IN AVOCA, NY. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED DAMAGE TO, BUT LIMITED TO, THE RIGHT WING, COCKPIT, EMPENNAGE, VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZERS, AND NOSE SECTION OF THE FUSELAGE DURING THE LANDING.

THE AIRCRAFT INITIALLY DEPARTED FROM ITS HOME BASE AIRPORT OF DANSVILLE, NY (DSV) WITH A PLANNED FLIGHT TO PAINTED POST, NY AND BACK TO DANSVILLE AIRPORT.

THE PILOT STATED IN HIS DEPOSITION TO NYS POLICE THAT HE BEGAN LOSING LIFT NEAR BATH, NY AND HAD THE AVOCA AIRSTRIP AS HIS PREARRANGED BACK UP PLAN IN CASE THAT HAPPENED. DUE TO THE LOSS OF LIFT AND ALTITUDE THE PILOT COULD NOT MAKE IT TO THE AVOCA AIRSTRIP AND ELECTED TO LAND IN THE FIELD ALONG INTERSTATE 390.

DURING THE LANDING THE PILOT STATES THAT THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED THE GROUND AND CAUSED THE NOSE OF THE GLIDER TO HIT THE GROUND.

THE PILOT RECEIVED A LACERATION TO HIS LEFT WRIST AND FRACTURED LEFT ANKLE.

THIS INSPECTOR REVIEWED THE AIRCRAFT LOGBOOK AND THE LAST ANNUAL INSPECTION WAS COMPLETED ON 8/28/2014 AND THE AIRCRAFT TOTAL TIME AT THE INSPECTION WAS 957.8 HOURS.
