## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FOLLOWING LANDING ON RUNWAY 13 AT LEESBURG AIRPORT (KLEE), THE STUDENT PILOT APPLIED SLIGHT RIGHT PRESSURE ON THE LEFT RUDDER PEDDLE TO RETURN THE AIRCRAFT BACK ONTO THE CENTERLINE OF THE RUNWAY. THE LANDING WAS SOFT AND THE SPEED SLOW.

INSTEAD OF STAYING ALIGNED WITH THE CENTERLINE, THE AIRCRAFT KEPT DRIFTING TOWARD THE LEFT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY. THE INSTRUCTOR APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER PEDDLE TO GET THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO THE CENTERLINE, BUT HIS ACTION MADE NO EFFECT. AT THAT POINT THE INSTRUCTOR PRESSED THE RIGHT BRAKE PEDDLE TO STOP THE AIRPLANE AND REALIGN IT TO THE RIGHT, BUT THE AIRPLANE DID NOT RESPOND AND THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED RUNWAY 13 NEAR TAXIWAY DELTA. TIRE MARKS VEERING FROM THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT INTO THE GRASS MARK THE PATH OF DEPARTURE. A SIGN MARKING TAXIWAY DELTA AND A RUNWAY EDGE LIGHT WERE DAMAGED WHEN THE A/C IMPACTED THEM. THE A/C ROLLED INTO THE GRASS TO THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 13 CAREENING IN A NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION, THEN SKIDDED ON ITS LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AS THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED, A TOTAL OF ABOUT 250 FEET INTO THE GRASSY AREA.

DURING THE INVESTIGATION, WHILE INTERVIEWING THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT, THE ASI DISCOVERED THAT THE IP/PIC DURING THE FLIGHT DID NOT HAVE HIS MEDICAL CERTIFICATE IN HIS POSSESSION NOR WAS IT AVAILABLE IN THE AIRCRAFT DURING THE FLIGHT AS REQUIRED BY FAR 61.3.
