## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A PART 91 FLIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT WAS FLOWN FROM THERMAL AIRPORT IN SOUITHERN CALIFORNIA SOUTH AND THEN WEST TO BORREGO SPRINGS, CA WHERE THE PILOT DID A T0UCH AND GO. THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN FLOWN IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION UNTIL IT STRUCK THE SIDE OF A HILL, KILLING THE PILOT. INVESTIGATORS COULD FIND NO EVIDENCE OF AIRCRAFT FAILURE. NTSB LAB EVALUATED THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT INSTRUMENT MEMORY CHIP AND DISCOVERED WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE PROFILE OF A SPIN. CORONER AND TOXICOLOGY REPORTS OFFERED NO EVIDENCE FOR CAUSE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14FA381](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14FA381), Sep 19, 2014: Cessna 162 (N3037H), Borrego Springs, CA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to recover from a stall, which resulted in a subsequent spin from which he did not recover because he did not immediately apply the proper stall and spin recovery techniques.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
