## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

OPERATION OF THE AIRPLANE PRIOR TO AND DURING THE ACCIDENT SEQUENCE WAS NOT WITNESSED BY ANY PERSON. IN ADDITION, BOTH OCCUPANTS OF THE AIRPLANE ARE UNAVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEW DUE TO THEIR INJURIES SUSTAINED DURING THE ACCIDENT. THEREFORE, IT HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED WHAT PHASE OF FLIGHT THE AIRPLANE WAS IN PRIOR TO IMPACTING TREES AND THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 500' SOUTHWEST OF THE DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY 26 AT WV29. THE PROPELLER WAS FOUND WITH LITTLE DAMAGE GIVING THE APPEARANCE THAT IT WAS NOT ROTATING UNDER ENGINE POWER DURING IMPACT WITH TREES AND THE GROUND. BOTH AIRPLANE OCCUPANTS ARE FAA CERTIFICATED PILOTS, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED WHO WAS PILOT IN COMMAND DURING THE ACCIDENT FLIGHT. THIS REPORT WILL BE AMENDED AFTER INTERVIEWS ARE CONDUCTED WITH BOTH AIRPLANE OCCUPANTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15LA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15LA028), Oct 26, 2014: Piper PA-28-140 (N5601U), Valley Point, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: Undetermined based on a lack of available information.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
