## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 7, 2010, THE AIRCRAFT WAS PREPARING FOR DEPARTURE. AFTER

PUSHBACK, THE TOWBAR AND COMMUNICATIONS WERE DISCONNECTED. AN ASTAR MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS LEAKING FLUID FROM A

SMALL CRACK ON THE RIGHT HAND UPPER AREA IN THE CYLINDRICAL BODY OF THE

CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. THE NUMBER 1 AND 4 ENGINES WERE RUNNING. THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED BACK INTO THE CHOCKS. ON JANUARY 8, 2010, THE AIRCRAFT WAS TAXIED FROM THE DHL RAMP TO THE DELTA HANGAR BY MAINTENANCE WHEN A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE NOSE GEAR AREA. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE DELTA HANGAR, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CRACK IN THE UPPER CYLINDER HAD PROGRESSED

COMPLETELY AROUND AND ENDANGERED THE SAFE MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
