As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) OF N30MB, AN AERO COMMANDER, DEPARTED RUNWAY 31C AT MIDWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MDW) IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS AT APPROXIMATELY 08:38 UTC. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, AT 08:40 UTC THE PIC REPORTED A PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT ENGINE OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE TOWER CONTROLLER CLEARED N30MB FOR EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT TRAFFIC AT THE AIRPORT. N30MB ENTERED LEFT TRAFFIC FOR RUNWAY 31C AT MDW. THE PIC WAS CLEARED BY MIDWAY TOWER TO LAND ON RUNWAY 4R, BUT THE PIC COMMUNICATED TO THE TOWER THAT HE WOULD LIKE RUNWAY 31C TO REMAIN INTO THE WIND. AT 08:41 UTC THE PILOT WAS CLEARED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 31C. AT 08:42 UTC, RADAR CONTACT WAS LOST. N30MB IMPACTED A HOME AT 6511 SOUTH KNOX AVENUE IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

THE PIC WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES. NO INJURIES ON THE GROUND OCCURRED. NO POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN15FA048](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN15FA048), Nov 18, 2014: Aero Commander 500 B (N30MB), Chicago, IL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed while attempting to return to the airport after a reported engine problem, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall/spin.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
