## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT AND LONE PASSENGER WERE RETURNING FROM GULF SHORES, AL ( JKA ) AND WAS LANDING AT A PRIVATE AIR FIELD IN ATHENS, AL. A WITNESS (CFI PILOT) STATED AT TIME OF ACCIDENT, WINDS WERE GUSTY AND COMING FROM THE SOUTH. PILOT STATED HE PERFORMED NORMAL DOWN WIND AND TURNED TO FINAL APPROACHING RUNWAY 18, PILOT STATED HE BELIEVED HE WAS TOO LOW AND SLOW, APPLIED FULL THROTTLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR POWER LINES AT THE APPROACH END OF THE FIELD. AIRCRAFT HIT POWER LINES AND IMPACTED GROUND JUST SHORT OF RUNWAY. PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE REMOVED FROM WRECKAGE AND TRANSPORTED BY LIFE FLIGHT TO TRAUMA CENTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15CA064](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15CA064), Nov 30, 2014: Piper PA 28-180 (N7422W), Athens, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate altitude while landing in gusty wind conditions, which resulted in a collision with power lines while on final approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
