## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED NORMAL TAKE OFF ROLL BUT SAID JUST AFTER LIFT OFF, AIRCRAFT WENT INTO UNCOMMANDED RIGHT TURN. PILOT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL AIRCRAFT ENOUGH TO GET BACK DOWN TO THE RUNWAY BUT AS SOON AS HE TOUCHED DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY MADE A HARD RIGHT TURN AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY STRIKING A SNOW BERM AS IT LEFT THE RUNWAY. PILOT REPORTED AFTER STRIKING THE BERM, THE AIRCRAFT CEASED IT'S RIGHT TURN AND WENT STRAIGHT UNTIL STOPPING. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND FLIGHT CONTROLS OPERATED NORMALLY, THE TAIL WHEEL HAD BROKEN OFF THE AIRCRAFT, AND THE TAIL WHEEL STEERING CABLES WERE BROKEN. TAIL WHEEL STEERING CABLE CAME OFF PULLEY AND JAMMED RUDDER CONTROLS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC15IA006](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC15IA006), Dec 20, 2014: Cessna 180J (N393B), Nome, AK, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: The disengagement and subsequent binding of the right tailwheel steering cable, which disabled the rudder system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
