## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AROUND 1300 (LCL) KIT BUILT SAFARI HELICOPTER N416JB IMPACTED THE GROUND KILLING THE PILOT ABOARD. THE CAUSE IS STILL UNKNOWN. SEVERAL WITNESS ONSITE SAY THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS SPINNING (LOSS OF TAIL ROTOR EFFECTIVENESS) THEN PITCHED NOSE UP AND STRUCK THE GROUND TAIL FIRST. IT APPEARS THAT THE MAIN ROTORS WERE NOT TURNING WHEN THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN15LA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN15LA104), Jan 16, 2015: Baker Bobby J Safari (N416JB), The Woodlands, TX, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: An in-flight separation of the helicopter’s horizontal stabilizer due to undetected fatigue cracking of the stabilizer spar, which resulted in a loss of control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
