## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING LANDING, THE STUDENT PILOT COULD NOT MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND ABRUPTLY PITCHED DOWN AND VEERED LEFT OF RUNWAY CENTERLINE. BEFORE THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR PILOT COULD TAKE CONTROL, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE AND CAME TO REST INVERTED APPROXIMATELY 10-15 FEET LEFT OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN15CA151](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN15CA151), Feb 21, 2015: Cessna 172P (N54974), Kankakee, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper flight control inputs resulting in the loss of control during the landing flare.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
