## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(INFORMATION NOTE) NTSB CASE NUMBER IS GAA 15 LA 015. THIS IS A NEW NTSB INVESTIGATING OFFICE AND IS NOT YET ONE OF THE SELECTION ON THE DROP DOWN MENU. LAX WAS USED IN THIS INSTANCE. LAX 15 LA 015. THIS INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED FROM THE NTSB INVESTIGATOR ASSIGNED TO THE CASE. MICHAEL HODGES "MICHAEL.HODGES@NTSB.GOV"

A PHONE CONVERSATION WITH THE PILOT WAS COMPLETED. THE PILOT COMMENTED: AFTER APPROXIMATELY A 40 MINUTE FLIGHT THE BALLOON WAS APPROACHING LAND TO CONCLUDE THE SIGHT SEEING FLIGHT. DURING FLIGHT THE WINDS HAD CHANGED DIRECTION AND SPEED. THE PILOT ESTIMATED THE SPEED OF THE BALLOON AT TOUCH-DOWN TO BE APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. ONE OF THE TEN PASSENGERS SUSTAINED TWO BROKEN ANKLES. THE BALLOON WAS DAMAGED BUT WAS SERVICEABLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15LA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15LA015), Mar 14, 2015: Ultramagic N210 (N210UM), Peoria, AZ, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for landing after noting a higher-than-anticipated wind speed and the balloon's high descent rate, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
