## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT MADE A SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF AND CLIMBED QUICKLY TO PATTERN ALTITUDE. HE HAD RETRACTED THE GEAR AND TURNED UPWIND AND WAS THINKING OF HOW HE WAS GOING TO SIMULATE A PRACTICE APPROACH INTO KEARNEY AIRPORT. DURING HIS DOWN -WIND APPROACH INTO RYAN AIRPORT, ATC INFORMED HIM IT WAS CLEAR TO LAND ONTO RUNWAY 6 RIGHT. DURING HIS MISSED APPROACH HE HAD FAILED TO CONDUCT HIS FIRST GUMP CHECK. THEN WHILE HE WAS CONDUCTING HIS SHORT BASE AND FINAL FOR A SHORT, STEEP APPROACH INTO RYAN AIRPORT, HE HAD MISSED THE CENTER LINE FOR RUNWAY 6 RIGHT AND WAS FIFTY DEGREES NORTH OF THE RUNWAY WITH RUNWAY 6 LEFT IN USE. HE THEN HAD TO QUICKLY CORRECT TO LINE UP ONTO CENTER OF RUNWAY 6 RIGHT AND WHILE DOING SO FORGOT TO EXTEND THE GEAR FOR LANDING.
