## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON HIS PRIVATE AIRSTRIP AROUND 7:40PM LOCAL TIME. THE WIND WAS LESS THAN 8 KNOTS IN THE AREA OUT OF THE WEST. ON FINAL APPROACH HEADING TOWARD THE WEST, THE AIRPLANE'S RIGHT WING STRUCK TREE BRANCHES ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE AIRSTRIP. THE AIRPLANE LANDED NOSE/FLOATS FIRST AND ENDED UP ON IT'S BACK. THE PILOT SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES AND WAS LIFE-FLIGHTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED IN THE IMPACT.

POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION INDICATED THE FLIGHT CONTROLS HAD CONTINUITY AND THE ENGINE APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN WORKING NORMALLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15LA027](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15LA027), Mar 28, 2015: Cub Crafters CC18 180 (N550BS), Westfield Township, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from trees during a base-to-final turn while landing toward the sun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
