## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THE AIRCRAFT IN THE NOSE COMPARTMENT AREA AND THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE FOLLOWING THIS MAINTENANCE. THE CERTIFICATED MECHANIC WITH AIRFRAME AND POWERPLANT RATINGS FAILED TO SECURELY FASTEN THE NOSE COMPARTMENT PANEL. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FLEW THE AIRCRAFT 3 DAYS AFTER THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE. THE NOSE COMPARTMENT PANEL DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT IN FLIGHT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES RELATED TO THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
