## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INCIDENT OCCURRED INVOLVING STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR CONDUCTING AFTER LANDING CHECKS. THE STUDENT INADVERTENTLY RAISED THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE WHEN INTENDING TO CLOSE THE COWL FLAPS RESULTING IN RETRACTION OF THE LANDING GEAR ON THE GROUND. THE RESULT WAS DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER AND ENGINE COWLING. THE MAIN GEAR DID NOT RETRACT.

DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR HE STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN "GUARDING THE LANDING GEAR" UNTIL ATC CALLED FOR A CHANGE IN FREQUENCY AND HE REMOVED HIS HAND FROM THE LANDING GEAR. AT THAT MOMENT HIS STUDENT LIFTED THE LAND GEAR HANDLE TO THE UP POSITION WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR HAD CALLED FOR HIM TO CLOSE THE COWL FLAPS. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED BY THE ADDISON, TX TOWER CONTROLLER TO THE SOUTHWEST REGION OPERATIONS CENTER. THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WAS GIVEN ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND A FOLLOW UP CHECK BY THE COMPANY CHIEF INSTRUCTOR. COUNSELING CONDUCTED BY INSPECTORS OF SW-19.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
