## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER THOROUGH PRE-FLIGHT AND NORMAL RUN-UP, PILOT TOOK OFF AT APPROXIMATELY 1515 FROM RUNWAY 8 TO PRACTICE TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS. AS THE AIRCRAFT CROSSED THE THRESHOLD, THE ENGINE COUGHED AND LOST A LITTLE ALTITUDE. THE ENGINE THEN CAME BACK ON, BUT LASTED ONLY A MOMENT. PILOT FOCUSED ATTENTION OUTSIDE AND LANDED IN THE FIELD AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

PILOT STATED I FLARED AND THE MAIN WHEELS HIT THE GROUND FIRST, THEN BOUNCED UP AND THE NOSE WHEEL HIT A SMALL RISE IN THE TERRAIN. THE NOSE GEAR FOLDED BACK, CAUSING FIREWALL DAMAGE. PILOT SECURED THE AIRCRAFT AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15LA187](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15LA187), Apr 15, 2015: Piper PA-28-140 (N7598R), Lancaster, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power during takeoff for reasons that could not be determined during postaccident examination of the engine or testing of the carburetor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
