## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 18, 2015, AT SMITHVILLE CRAWFORD MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (84R), A POWERED PARACHUTE (LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT) LOST CONTROL DURING TAKEOFF ROLL AND STRUCK A HANGAR. THE NON-CERTIFIED PILOT SUSTAINED A COMPOUND FRACTURE (BROKEN TIBIA) TO THE RIGHT LEG AND ABRASIONS TO THE LEFT ARM. HE STATED THAT HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO ?KITE THE CHUTE? WHEN HE WAS CAUGHT BY A STRONG CROSSWIND, WHICH TANGLED THE PARACHUTE LINES, AND PUSHED HIM OFF THE RUNWAY. HE ATTEMPTED TO ABORT, BUT WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THE ENGINE POWER CONTROL AND INADVERTENTLY INCREASED POWER WHEN HE INTENDED TO DECREASE POWER. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. DAMAGE TO THE HANGER INCLUDED DESTRUCTION OF A 3? X 8? SHEET METAL PANEL AND ASSOCIATED INTERNAL SUPPORT STRUCTURE. THERE IS NO WEATHER SENSING EQUIPMENT AT THE SMITHVILLE AIRPORT, BUT TWO NEARBY AIRPORTS WERE REPORTING CALM WINDS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. AIRCRAFT MAKE AND MODEL IS A BUCKEYE BREEZE 2200. IT IS CATEGORIZED AS A LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT SINCE IT IS EQUIPPED WITH TWO SEATS, HAS A 10 GALLON FUEL CAPACITY, AND HAS AN EMPTY WEIGHT OF 395 LBS.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
