## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS MAKING A VISUAL APPROACH AND LANDING ON RUNWAY 18 AT CHERRY RIDGE AIRPORT. THE RUNWAY IS 2986' IN LENGTH, SLOPES DOWN 0.6% AND HAS A 519' DISPLACED THRESHOLD. THE PILOT BELIEVED, BASED ON PREFLIGHT TAF REPORTS, HE WOULD ENCOUNTER A DIRECT CROSSWIND ON LANDING. HOWEVER, TWO EYEWITNESSES INDICATED THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS BASED ON THE AIRPORT WIND SOCK WERE A DIRECT, STRONG TAILWIND. THE WITNESSES ALSO REPORTED THE AIRPLANE FLOATED ABOVE THE RUNWAY BEFORE TOUCHING DOWN 821' FROM THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD. THIS WOULD LEAVE 1,646' TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT STATED THE BRAKING ACTION WAS GOOD, BUT "FADED" AT THE ROLLOUT END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AT A LOW SPEED, WENT INTO A REVINE SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING THE PAVEMENT AND CAME TO REST WITH LEFT/RIGHT WINGS AGAINST SOME LARGE TREE STUMPS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15CA055](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15CA055), Apr 18, 2015: Beech C 50 (N38MM), Honesdale, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to stop the airplane on the runway during landing, resulting in an overrun, landing gear collapse and substantial damage to the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
