ON 05/27/2015, TRAVELED TO A PRIVATE STRIP LOCATED 4.5 MILES EAST OF STEELE, ND TO ASSIST IN AN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION INVOLVING N56074, A PIPER PA28-180, SN: 28-7305524. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON HIS EAST/WEST GRASS STRIP AND DISCOVERED HE WAS GOING TOO FAST. HE INITIATED A GO-AROUND. ON HIS SECOND ATTEMPT, HE SLOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO 60MPH WITH FULL FLAPS AND CAME IN MUCH LOWER AND SLOWER. HE TOUCHED DOWN BUT WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE AIRCRAFT ON THE WET GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SKID SIDEWAYS AND THE STUDENT PILOT ATTEMPTED ANOTHER GO-AROUND. DUE TO THE SLOWER APPROACH SPEED THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO CLIMB AND COLLIDED WITH A FENCE AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT REMAINED AT FULL POWER JUST A FEW FEET ABOVE THE GROUND AND WAS BADLY DAMAGED FROM IMPACT WITH THE FENCE. AIRCRAFT THEN VEERED TO THE LEFT AND COLLIDED WITH A FEED BUNK LOCATED 677 FEET FROM THE FENCE. STUDENT PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND WAS UNINJURED.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
