## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A WATER LANDING, THE RIGHT SPONSON DETACHED FROM THE WING WHICH CAUSED THE PILOT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT SPUN TO THE RIGHT, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE AND EMPENNAGE.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO REMAIN AFLOAT AND SANK IN APPROXIMATELY 15FT OF WATER. THE RIGHT SPONSON WAS NEVER LOCATED. INVESTIGATION DID NOT FIND ANY MECHANICAL IRREGULARITIES WITH THE AIRCRAFT OR ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15CA086](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15CA086), May 22, 2015: Consolidated Aeronautics Lake LA 4 200 (N613LC), Glenwood, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper lateral/ bank level off during the landing flare, which resulted in the right wing impacting the water and a subsequent loss of control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
