## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC WAS A STUDENT PILOT ON A SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM KJST AND HAD A HARD LANDING ON RUNWAY 24 AT KUNV DURING A CROSSWIND LANDING.

THE WIND WAS REPORTED AT 330 DEGREES AT 9 KNOTS. THE PROP STRUCK THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT FIREWALL WAS BUCKLED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED.

(THE RIDGE NORTH OF THE AIRPORT IS KNOWN TO PRODUCE DOWN DRAFTS AND TURBULENCE AROUND THE AIRPORT RUNWAY AREA WHEN THE WIND IS FROM THE NORTH-WEST.)

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15CA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15CA099), May 28, 2015: Cessna 172 - R (N2254U), State College, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during the approach to landing which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
