## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON THE INITIAL CLIMB-OUT AT 300 FEET AGL, THE INSTRUCTOR INITIATED A TRAINING ROPE BREAK EXERCISE. THE STUDENT INITIATED A TURN BACK TOWARD THE AIRPORT, HOWEVER, THE TURN WAS NOT SUFFICIENT AND THE INSTRUCTOR ASKED THE STUDENT TO TIGHTEN THE TURN.

INSTEAD, THE STUDENT PRESSED ON THE RUDDER PEDAL HARD ENOUGH TO COUPLE WITH THE AEILERON AND INDUCE A SPIN.

THE INSTRUCTOR RECOVERED THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE SPIN AT APPROX. 75 FEET AGL. IN ORDER TO MISS HITTING POWER LINES, THE INSTRUCTOR DOVE THE GLIDER UNDER THE POWER LINES.

AT THIS LOW ALTITUDE, THE LANDING OPTIONS WERE MINIMAL. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOTED THE GLIDER BETWEEN TWO TREES. BOTH WINGS STRUCK TREES ON THE LANDING ROLL.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT AND STUDENT WERE UNHARMED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15CA141](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15CA141), Jun 25, 2015: Schweizer SGS 2 32 (N275P), Middlefield, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's incorrect pitch and roll rate control inputs which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and incipient spin at a low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
