## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

UPON INITIAL CLIMB OUT FROM DED AIRPORT AT ABOUT 400 TO 500 FEET AND ABOUT 90 KNOTS PILOT HEARD A LOUD BANG COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE PROPELLER IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO FULL FEATHER POSITION. THE PILOT STATED HE SAW TREES IN FRONT OF HIM THEN REALIZED AS HE CONTINUED HIS SCAN TO THE LEFT HE HAD A ENOUGH SPACE ON THE AIRFIELD TO EXECUTE A 300 DEGREE TURN TO THE LEFT AND INTO THE WIND. HE STATED THE AIRCRAFT TRIMMED TO ABOUT 60 TO 55 KNOTS AND HE APPLIED FLAPS AND LANDED ON THE TAXI WAY. NO ONE ON BOARD WAS INJURED AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT SEE ANY EVIDENCE OF OIL ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF THE AIRCRAFT OR DID HE SEE ANY DAMAGE TO THE EXHAUST OR COWLING. I ASKED IF HE HAPPENED TO SEE ANY SIGNS OF ENGINE TROUBLE REGARDING ENGINE GAUGE INDICATIONS, HE STATED THAT ALL APPEARED NORMAL AND WITHIN LIMITS RIGHT UP TO THE ENGINE FAILURE

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
