## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PIC WAS FLYING THE AIRPLANE INTO THE PALATKA AIRPORT 28J TO HAVE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE. DURING THE FIRST APPROACH TO RUNWAY 9 THE PILOT EXECUTED A MISSED APPROACH DUE TO BEING TOO HIGH AND TOO FAST. DURING THE SECOND APPROACH THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED AND WHILE AIRBORNE THE PIC DECIDED TO EXECUTE A MISSED APPROACH AND APPLIED FULL POWER. AT THAT TIME THE AIRPLANE STARTED TO YAW AND ROLLED TO THE LEFT. AT THAT POINT THE AIRPLANE'S LEFT WING HIT THE GRASS AND STARTED TO CART WHEEL. AFTER THAT THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND AND THE ENGINE SEPARATED FROM THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A STOP ABOUT 50 FEET FROM THE CERTERLINE OF RUNWAY 9, JUST PAST THE INTERSECTION OF RUNWAY 17/35.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15CA264](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15CA264), Jul 11, 2015: Haphey Bruce Frederic Mustang II (N59PB), Palatka, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airplane control during a balked landing and attempted go-around in dark night conditions and without a landing light, which resulted in collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
