## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON LIFTOFF THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED A CROSSWIND/WINDSHEAR CONDITION. THE PILOT FELT HE COULD NOT MAKE A SUCCESSFUL TAKEOFF SO HE ELECTED TO LAND. DURING LANDING IN THE GRASS, THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE NAV/INSTRUMENT LIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED 200 FEET LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE AND 500 FEET BEFORE THE TREES. THE PILOT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT COULD NOT STOP. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE TREES AND BUSHES PAST THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND SLIDE THROUGH A FENCE AND ONTO THE HIGHWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15LA266](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15LA266), Jul 13, 2015: Grumman American Avn. AA 5 (N1356R), Southbridge, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to abort the takeoff with insufficient runway remaining, which resulted in a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
