## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE CONDUCTING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT, DURING THE TAKEOFF CLIMB OUT FROM AN OUTLYING AIRPORT (OEO), A LOUD NOISE WAS NOTED WHEN THE GEAR WAS RETRACTED. THE PILOT THEN ATTEMPTED TO EXTEND THE GEAR ON THE SUBSEQUENT APPROACH AND THE LEFT MAIN GEAR DID NOT EXTEND. SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO EXTEND THE GEAR. THE PILOT RETURNED TO THE HOME AIRPORT (ANE) AND COMPLETED A GEAR UP LANDING CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
