As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT AND HIS MECHANIC DEPARTED ATA AND LANDED IN AN OPEN AREA INSIDE ATLANTA, TX CITY LIMITS. UPON LANDING THE TAIL STRUCK THE GROUND. THE TAIL ROTOR GEARBOX BROKE LOOSE FROM THE TAILBOOM, SPINNING 90 DEGREES BUT REMAINING ATTACHED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WITNESSED THE EVENT. WHEN HE ARRIVED THE PILOT INDICATED HE HAD A PROBLEM WITH HIS TAIL ROTOR. THE MECHANIC ON BOARD INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL ISSUES, AND THE PILOT HAD JUST DECIDED TO LAND AT THIS LOCATION. THE PILOT STATED TO THIS INSPECTOR THAT THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL ISSUE AND THAT HE LANDED AT THIS LOCATION AS IT WAS NEAR HIS HOME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
