## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 30, 2015 AN AMATEUR-BUILT EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT DEPARTED SLR RUNWAY 1. THE AIRCRAFT GAINED 200 FEET OF ALTITUDE, 2000 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY WHEN THE ENGINE COUGHED, BACK-FIRED, THEN STOPPED RUNNING. THE PILOT MAINTAINED THE SAME NOSE-UP ATTITUDE AND TURNED TO THE LEFT, CAUSING THE LEFT WING TO STALL. THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED A ½ TURN STALL-SPIN AND CONTACTED THE GROUND, LEFT WING AND NOSE FIRST. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED ON THE PARALLEL GRASS STRIP, WEST OF THE MAIN RUNWAY. UPON GROUND CONTACT, AN EXPLOSION OCCURRED, CREATING A LARGE FIREBALL AND SUBSEQUENT POST-CRASH FIRE. THE PILOT ESCAPED THE WRECKAGE AND RAN ABOUT 50 FEET, CONSUMED IN FIRE. THE PILOT SUFFERED BURNS OVER 100% OF HIS BODY AND DIED OF HIS INFURIES ON AUGUST 3, 2015

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN15LA329](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN15LA329), Jul 31, 2015: O'Dell Aeromaster (N55J), Sulphur Springs, TX, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postimpact damage precluded a thorough examination of the airplane. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's failure…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
